Carrizo Canyon Hike
DISTANCE. 2.7 miles.
ELEVATION GAIN. 413 feet.
ROUTE TYPE. Out & Back
Soft Sand Trail (which slow hikers down)
If trail is cut short due to rain damage we will hike a portion of Art Smith Trail.
Beautiful Rock Canyon Walls

I am not certain how the rain impacted the canyon. So this is an exploring hike.

Carrizo Canyon provides a unique desert canyon “ambience” and yet another possibility of spotting bighorn sheep. The trail goes up a sandy wash for a short distance before entering the mouth of the canyon itself. The narrow nature of the canyon enhances the feeling of entering a passage and truly getting away from it all. The canyon walls themselves are accentuated by rock layers that appear to be twisted into odd patterns, and lend themselves to great photos. After climbing through a small boulder outcropping, you will eventually reach an area where the canyon branches off in two directions. The right branch heads to seasonal waterfalls with near-vertical faces, which should only be attempted by experienced hikers. The branch straight ahead continues uphill through a dry creek bed and eventually hooks back around to the right and looks down on the waterfalls and out to the valley beyond. It would be the most appropriate choice for the casual hiker looking for a less strenuous walk.

To keep our hiking numbers contained we do a membership of $140 for 12 months. We have 130 members currently and most of our group hikes are between 10 to 15 members. We hike every weekend, go on amazing camping trips like Zion, Sedona, and Mammoth, and we do amazing outdoor activities like snorkeling.

The hiking group member hikes coming up include Bear Paw, Bridge To Nowhere, local canyon hikes, and Joshua Tree.

$140 per 12 months is cheaper than a gym and will open your world to the outdoors and you will make amazing friends who love the outdoors.
