This hike requires a two hour drive from the desert.

and Two hours return to the desert.

I have been on this hike twice now. I have gone into the mine twice and it does require flashlights.
HIKE
Hike to the surprisingly extensive remains of an abandoned gold mine high on the side of massive Mt Baden-Powell. The alpine scenery in this area of the San Gabriel Mountains is spectacular, and if you’re adventurous you may be able to explore the mine as well.

About This Hike: 4-mi round trip, out-and-back; 700-ft climb
Fitness Level: Easy to Moderate
Parking: Free with Adventure Pass.
What to Bring: Headlamp or flashligh, water, dress in layers.
Bring a lunch
Dogs allowed on leash.
The trail has some rocky places.

Awesome hike! My first time there today and absolutely loved it. Please make sure to get the adventure pass at Jensens (small town about 8 miles down) or REI before coming up. The trail was easy to follow and very rocky. There were definitely some areas where we had to slow down and watch our steps, but I do think it's manageable as long as you don't look down. Id say there are about 4-5 of these areas and they're fairly small. Please be careful on the trail as its full of rocks and it's easy to roll ankles! A must do!
